SUCCESSFUL TENDER NAMED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE AURORA ESTATE STAGE 2 DEVELOPMENT IN CHARLEVILLE
At a recent Special Meeting of the Murweh Shire Council, Council accepted a tender from Durack Civil (Brisbane, QLD) for the construction of the Aurora Estate Stage 2 Development in Charleville under Contract MSC AE 13.

The Aurora Estate is a Council-delivered residential subdivision comprising 65 lots with an average size of approximately 1,000m². The project has been developed to address the shortage of residential land in Charleville outside of the known flood impact area and to support the attraction and retention of skilled workers and families within the Murweh Shire.
Back in June 2023, Council resolved to invest funds from its own cash reserves to further investigate the feasibility of continuing the development of Aurora Estate. This early investment proved pivotal as it established the project foundations that underpinned a successful application for a grant of $578,584 under the Australian Government's $1.5 billion Housing Support Program (HSP) Stream 1 for the design phase of the project, and subsequently secured grant funding of $13.2m under the Queensland Government's $2 billion Residential Activation Fund (RAF) for the construction of trunk and essential infrastructure to unlock the Aurora Estate Stage 2 Development.
The engineering design and planning stage for the Aurora Estate Stage 2 Development was completed by the Toowoomba-based company Harrison Infrastructure Group under the HSP Stream 1 funding, encompassing earthworks, road construction, stormwater drainage, water reticulation, gravity sewer, rising main, pump station, and associated civil infrastructure. Construction of the works is to be delivered under the RAF program, a key Queensland Government initiative to accelerate the activation of residential land supply across the State.
Early works for the Stage 2 project commenced in December 2025, with the sod turning attended by the Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, the Honourable Mr Jarrod Bleijie MP, Murweh Shire Mayor, Mr Shaun ‘Zoro’ Radnedge, and the Honourable Ms Ann Leahy MP, Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers and Member for Warrego.
Council issued an open tender under Contract MSC AE 13 for the construction works and, with the tender now closed, seven (7) conforming tender responses were received and evaluated.

Murweh Shire Mayor, Cr Shaun Radnedge commented that the construction of the Aurora Estate Stage 2 Development was a game changer for the future of Charleville. “These additional 65 flood free residential lots will enable the building of new houses for the people in our community desperately needing housing, and those people providing essential medical, teaching, emergency and social services in our community”.
Cr Radnedge strongly remarked that Murweh Shire Council is very grateful to both the Australian and Queensland Governments for their combined investments into this critically important development project. “Aurora Estate will, when built, change the outlook for the community into the future and I am extremely grateful to the Federal and State Governments for their faith in Murweh Shire Council to deliver this project on time and on budget on behalf of the nation”.
