Water and Sewerage

Watering Schedule

Current level: Level 1 (Standard Watering Schedule)
Summer hours now apply (1 September – 31 March)

Same water. Just not all at once.

The watering schedule doesn't reduce how much water you can use. It just spreads outdoor watering across the week so we're not all watering at the same time.

On hot summer afternoons, most of town gets home and turns the sprinklers on together. Demand can reach about double the daily average, which is more than our bores and pumps can supply. When that happens, pressure drops across town and the reservoirs can't refill in time.

Odd and even days mean only half the town runs sprinklers on any given day, so everyone keeps good water pressure.

Know your watering days

The schedule applies to sprinklers, irrigation and unattended hoses on town water in Charleville, Augathella and Morven. Your days depend on your street number.

Watering Days Summer (1 Sep - 31 Mar) Winter (1 Apr - 31 Aug)
Odd Numbers (e.g. 13 Smith St)  Tue, Thu, Sat Before 9am and after 4pm Any time of day
Even Numbers (e.g. 14 Smith St) Wed, Fri, Sun Before 9am and after 4pm Any time of day

Properties without a street number are treated as odd.

Hand watering is OK every day, any time

You can water by hand with a single hose every day, including outside the scheduled hours and on your off days, as long as the hose is held and attended while in use. Sprinklers and unattended hoses can only be used on your days and during the approved hours.

Tank, bore or dam water

If you're watering from a rainwater tank, bore or dam that isn't connected to Council's town water supply, the schedule doesn't apply. We recommend putting up a sign so your neighbours know you're using a private water supply.

Need an exemption?

If your circumstances mean you need to water outside the schedule, you can apply for an exemption.

  • Complete the Water Schedule Exemption Application Form(PDF, 282KB) and send it to the Chief Executive Officer at mail@murweh.qld.gov.au
  • Council aims to process applications within 10 business days
  • Laying new turf? Apply at least one week before laying. Turf exemptions are issued for a maximum of 10 days
  • If approved, you'll receive an Exemption Permit. It must be displayed prominently on the property and returned to Council when it expires

Restriction levels

The standard watering schedule is Level 1. Council may declare a higher level by resolution if conditions require it:

  • Level 1 (Minor): Standard watering schedule
  • Level 2 (Medium): Reduced watering methods and frequency
  • Level 3 (High): Watering by bucket or watering can only
  • Level 4 (Critical): No outdoor watering

If the level changes, we'll update this page and let the community know. Full details of what's allowed at each level are in the Watering Schedule Policy.

Compliance

Council's Authorised Officers investigate reported breaches of the watering schedule. Where an offence is found, a Penalty Infringement Notice may be issued in line with the State Penalties Enforcement Regulation 2014.
