Proposed Major Planning Scheme Amendment 1
Overview
The Murweh Shire Council Planning Scheme 2017 (the planning scheme) commenced on 1 December 2017 and is an important document that guides growth, land use and development in our region. As a living document, the planning scheme requires periodic updates to remain responsive to community needs, policy changes, and State and Local Government priorities.
Council has recently been confirmed as eligible for funding under Pathway 1 of the State Government’s Scheme Supply Fund. This funding will support a Major Planning Scheme Amendment designed to:
- Advance key actions from Council’s Local Housing Action Plan
- Support housing delivery in the region
- Streamline development application processes
- Ensure the scheme continues to support resilient and sustainable communities
As part of the Planning Act 2016, the Minister's Guidelines and Rules outline the formal process for making and amending local planning instruments. This process typically takes 12–24 months and includes stages of research, consultation, and review by both Council and the Queensland Government.
