Child Safeguarding Community Sessions Coming to Charleville, Augathella and Morven

Murweh Shire Council, in partnership with the Queensland Family & Child Commission, is hosting free community sessions on Queensland's new child safeguarding laws in Charleville, Augathella and Morven from 10 to 12 November 2026.

The Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Qld) came into effect on 1 October 2025. The Act is designed to strengthen how organisations prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. Its reach extends well beyond schools and childcare services to many community groups, clubs, volunteers and businesses across our region.

Murweh Shire Council is hosting the Queensland Family & Child Commission (QFCC) for a series of free, practical briefings as part of the Commission's visit to the region. The sessions will help local organisations understand what they must do to keep children and young people safe.

Session details

Charleville - Tuesday 10 November 2026 - Charleville Town Hall @ 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Augathella - Wednesday 11 November - Augathella Town Hall @ 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Morven - Thursday - 12 November 2026 - Morven Town Hall @ 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Who should attend?

The sessions are for all local organisations and community groups that work with, support or have contact with children and young people, including:

schools, TAFE and training providers
childcare and early learning services
sporting clubs and organisations
youth, music and art groups
churches and faith communities
community and neighbourhood centres
health and allied health services
disability and NDIS service providers
family and youth support services
transport and driver trainers
government entities, including Murweh Shire Council
businesses that host youth events or hire Council facilities for family or youth activities
commercial services for children, such as photography, entertainment, coaching and tutoring
anyone else who supports or works with children and young people.

The sessions are relevant to paid staff, volunteers, committee members and office bearers.

understand their responsibilities under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Qld)
find out what the Child Safe Standards and Reportable Conduct Scheme mean for their organisation
learn practical ways to build child safeguarding into everyday activities
get clarity on reporting obligations

connect with other local groups and services.

Registration

Attendance is free, but registration is essential. RSVPs close on Sunday 8 November 2026.
