Murweh Shire Council has released an update following recent testing of town water supplies in Charleville, Augathella, and Morven after reports of Naegleria fowleri at local health facilities. Comprehensive testing found no evidence of N. fowleri in the local water systems, though other harmless Naegleria species were detected. Queensland Health has confirmed that the town water remains safe to drink, and has provided simple safety precautions for using water in ways that avoid water entering the nose. There have been no reported cases of infection in the Murweh region, and chlorination remains the best protection against this naturally occurring amoeba.
