Name the Road to the Augathella Rodeo Grounds

PUBLIC NOTICE - Have Your Say on Naming the Road to the Augathella Rodeo Grounds
MUST BE AN AUGATHELLA RESIDENT TO PARTICIPATE
Council needs your help to name a local road - and we would love to hear your ideas.
The road that provides access to the Augathella Rodeo Grounds (and to Lot 9 on A2375) has never been formally named. Over the years this has caused some very real, practical problems for the families and community groups who use it. Because the road has no official name or street address, different agencies have relied on their own informal references over time, and this has made it difficult for the Queensland Ambulance Service and other emergency responders to locate the property quickly, and has caused ongoing headaches with mail, freight and online deliveries, and with utility providers such as Ergon Energy.
At its Ordinary Meeting on 25 June 2026, Council considered this matter and resolved to fix it. Under Resolution 192/26, Council resolved to initiate a formal road naming process for the unnamed road reserve accessing Lot 9 on A2375 and the Augathella Rodeo Grounds, and to invite submissions from the Augathella community to help inform the final name. Council has authorised the Chief Executive Officer to progress the naming in accordance with the Local Government Act 2009.
What Council is looking for
Council's preference is for a name that means something to Augathella - one that reflects our town's history, heritage, or long-term community connections. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise a person, a family, an event, or a piece of local history that has helped shape the Augathella district.
A strong suggestion might draw on any of the following:
- A pioneering family or individual with a long and meaningful connection to Augathella
- An event, tradition, or place of significance in the district's history
- The heritage of the Augathella Rodeo Grounds and the community groups connected to it
- A name that is easy for residents, visitors, and emergency services to recognise, say, and spell
How to have your say
We invite all Augathella residents to put forward a suggestion using the form below. Please tell us both your suggested name and a short explanation of why you feel it is an appropriate and fitting name for our community. Your reasons are just as important as the name itself, as they will help Council and the community weigh up each suggestion.
Once submissions have been received, you will be kept informed of the next steps and of Council's decision. In the meantime, Council has also arranged for four directional signs to be installed around town to make the Rodeo Grounds easier to find for visitors and travellers.
Thank you for helping us give this important community road the name it deserves.
