Media Statement

Statement from the Mayor on the Deaths of Two Charleville Residents

This is a heartbreaking day for our community of Charleville.

My thoughts, and the thoughts of our Councillors and staff, are with the families, friends and everyone affected by the deaths of a man and a woman at a Charleville residence overnight.

Based on the information to date, I want to reassure our community that there is no ongoing risk to the public. The situation has been brought to an end, and Queensland Police have confirmed no officers or members of the public were injured.

As this matter is now subject to investigation by the Ethical Standards Command, with a report being prepared for the coroner, it would be inappropriate for me to speculate on the circumstances. I have every confidence police will conduct a thorough investigation, and I ask that our community allow that process to take its course.

This tragedy will be felt deeply across our small community. I know many people will be struggling to come to terms with what has happened. Please reach out to family, friends, or one of the support services below if you need to talk to someone.

I also want to mention our gratitude to our local and supporting police officers and emergency response agencies - for their commitment to the safety of our community.

Today, our focus is on supporting one another and respecting the privacy of the families involved.
