MURWEH SHIRE COUNCIL ADOPTS 2025/2026 BUDGET FOCUSED ON SUSTAINABILITY, INFRASTRUCTURE, AND COMMUNITY GROWTH

Murweh Shire Council has officially adopted its 2025/2026 Budget at a Special Meeting held today, outlining a strategic financial plan that prioritises infrastructure renewal, community wellbeing, and long-term sustainability across the Shire.

Mayor Shaun ‘Zoro’ Radnedge said the budget reflects Council’s commitment to delivering essential services while investing in the future of Murweh’s communities.

“This budget is about balance, maintaining the services our residents rely on, while building the foundations for growth and resilience,” Mayor Radnedge said. “We’ve listened to our community and focused our investments where they’ll have the greatest impact.”

Budget Highlights:

  •  Total Budget: $48.23 million
  •  Capital Works Investment: $17.81 million, including:
    •  $4.7 million for Charleville Sewerage Treatment Plant Upgrade
    •  $1.5 million for Alfred Street Renewal (Charleville)
    •  $1.05 million for Augathella CED Scheme
    •  $1 million for Water Renewals
    •  $640,000 for Rural Road Reseal (Biddenhan & Mount Tabor)
    •  $600,000 for Charleville Airport Reseal
    •  $550,000 for Construction of Amenities at Multi-sport facility (Charleville) 
    •  $437,000 for Resheeting & Reseals (Rural)
    •  $437,000 for Resheeting & reseals (Urban)
    •  $334,000 for Augathella CED Scheme Design
    •  $336,000 for Aurora Housing Estate (Stage 2)
    •  $300,000 for Town Street Rehabilitation Program
    •  $300,000 for Council Facility Infrastructure Program
  • Operating Revenue: $ ? million, with 58% sourced from grants and subsidies
  • Operating Expenditure: $30.2 million comprising Depreciation 21%, Employee Benefits 28%, Materials & Services 50% and Finance Cost 1%
  • Rates and Charges: Average increase of 5%, with a 10% discount for early payment and $400 pensioner remission maintained
  • Loan Repayments: $221,000

Chief Executive Officer Bruce Scott noted, “We’ve built a budget that is financially sound and community focused. It positions Murweh Shire to thrive in the face of future challenges.”
