The Raw Metal dancers deliver a spectacular performance, combining explosive rhythms, pure comical genius, acrobatics and good old fashioned high energy dance. Celebrate Queensland’s 150th birthday with Raw Metal at the Q150 Shed.

Daisie May
Inspired by sounds of Nick Cave, Magic Dirt and the White Stripes, Daisie May is rawness. Their songs are about dissatisfaction, love, broken hearts, the downfalls of today’s society, hope, despair and night time adventures. They move through a full palette of emotions and tell stories that most can relate to. There is often a contrast between lyrical depth and darkness and poppy melodies and energetic riffs. The songs often contain a certain amount of satire and hidden meaning.
Fronted by Pauline Maudy, Daisie May is formed by Matt Ward on guitar with his brilliant riffs and signature sounds, Ben McBurnie on bass and Anthony Judd on drums.
When: Saturday 14 November, from 6.50pm

Ken Read

Charleville local and self-confessed teller of tales, Ken Read’s stories are reflections of his bygone droving days. Leaving his hometown of Forbes at the age of sixteen by horse and cart, Ken sought adventure in the outback. He soon found himself at Charlton Station, Bullon, breaking in horses. From Charlton he went on to droving stock, both cattle and sheep, from as far north as the Gulf to as south as Sydney. After making Charleville his home base between those droving years, Ken finally returned to make Charleville home. During the late 1980s he began working for Cobb and Co Coach where he remained for a number of years.
In 1996, Ken competed and won first placing in a yarn spinning competition in Birdsville. In the three consecutive years that followed, he received recognition by winning the Bard of the Outback competition and in 1998 his success continued in Laidley. Since 1999, Ken has retired from competition, but not from entertaining both locally and overseas.
When: Saturday 14 November, 5.00pm–5.15pm

Majella Steedman
Majella Steedman (nee Stapleton) was born in Charleville in 1957. The ninth in a family of eleven, Majella lived on Mon Abri near Wyandra till 1963, before relocating to Charleville to complete her schooling.
In 1979, she moved to Brisbane where she married and reared two children. She never lost her deep love of the bush and in 1998 moved the family back to Charleville. Since then, her poetry has become very much part of her life. For many years, Majella has recited poetry at the local caravan parks during the tourist season of April to October.
When: Saturday 14 November, 5.20pm–5.35pm

Bob Sage
Bob Sage joined the Navy as soon as he was old enough. On discharge, he then ventured into a number of positions that enabled him to travel and live extensively over this beautiful country. His life experiences have seen him go from rags to riches and back to rags again. He has experienced love and loss and love again.
In recent years, Bob has written a book of his adventure-filled life Bulldust to Bitumen and two books of bush poetry, although these were never published on the open market. Both the book and poetry verses can be found online as ebooks at his Aussie Bloke website (external site).
When: Saturday 14 November, 5.40pm–5.55pm

'where we from…' banners project exhibition

The 'where we from…' banners project is designed to engage people of all ages to celebrate cultural identity through a visual arts program.
The 'where we from…' banners project visually depicts the Indigenous relationships between land, identity and culture. A safe environment was created to revitalise cultural connections between young people and Elders. Elders shared beliefs and stories while participants created artworks and acquired skills in communication of ideas and thoughts through visual art and design techniques. Local Indigenous arts workers and artists from the 15 different communities were employed to facilitate workshops and community consultation ensured facilitators were receptive towards the needs and demands of the community.
